Tanzania: Water Sector Support Project

The Water Sector Support Project aims to strengthen sector institutions for integrated water resources management and improve access to water supply and sanitation services. There are 4 components to the project: (1) strengthening institutional capacity for improving the management of water resources by providing logistical and technical assistance for basin institutions and their management systems, support for the planning and preparation of integrated (river and lake) basin development and management plans, and support for the implementation of selected priority water resources investment projects; (2) providing support to all local governments in the scaling up of the provision of rural water and sanitation services; (3) giving support to Dar es Salaam, all regional and district capitals, and gazetted small town utilities in the scaling up of provision of urban water and sanitation services; and (4) providing support for the new role of the Ministry of Water, assistance for sub-sector planning and operational capacities, support to sector coordination and policy re-alignment, and support for sector capacity building.
