In 2006 South Korean government agreed to help finance the redesign of over 2000 homes to use solar eneregy as part of an effort to promote renewable energy. Homeowners will be compensated for 70% of the construction costs. In 2005, 907 homes were renovated.

Heat Insulation Standards

Energy efficiency standards for buildings: In the residential/commercial sector, more than 80% of the energy consumed is used for heating. While older buildings require 200-250 kWh/m2, the new standards should bring heating energy requirements down to 100-150 kWh/m2.
